“Picking a man’s pocket every twenty-fifth of December! It’s not fair sir d’ye hear me? Just not fair.”
It wouldn’t be Christmas without A Christmas Carol. In this new stage version, Patrick Barlow takes Charles Dickens’ classic story of greed, grief, ghoulish ghosts and eleventh-hour redemption, and makes it feel brand new again.
This version, which has played off-Broadway and in London’s West End, is the third Patrick Barlow adaptation presented by Tudor Players, following sell-out performances of Ben Hur (2018) and The 39 Steps (2012).
Based on the original ghost story, it has occasional scary moments, but Patrick Barlow injects lots of humour and takes liberties with the language and mood of the play. The entire show is performed by just five actors, most playing multiple roles, not to mention a dash of puppetry. The fast-paced story unfolds in front of the audience’s eyes as the actors switch roles.
