There are many ways to get involved in Tudor Players, see below for some of the key roles which you might be interested in. We are a very friendly and welcoming group, so whether you have prior experience or not we would be happy to meet you and help you develop your ambitions in theatre!
Whether you are an experienced actor, or fancy trying something new, we want to hear from you. Productions usually have a range of characters from large, demanding roles to smaller "bit" parts. We will support you to learn and develop your talents!
The Director leads the creative process of putting on a production, working with the cast during rehersals and with the crew on set, sound and lighting design. This is usually done by the more experienced members of the group, but if you have prior directing experience or want to learn, please come and talk to us.
Set design is an integral part of any production, and the designers work closely with the director to realise the vision for the show. Equally important are the team with the carpentry and artistic skills who build and decorate the sets. We welcome anyone with experience in this area, and can also teach new skills if you have no prior experience.
Our Sound and Lighting teams are key parts of the creative process, designing the effects that help to create the look and atmosphere of a production. They also operate the technology which makes all of this happen! Whether you are interested in the creative or technical aspects, come along and get involved!
Tudor Players has an extensive prop store and costume wardrobe at our Attercliffe studio, but for each production we need creative people to source and build new props as well as source, make or adjust costumes to fit the needs of the play. No experience is necessary!
The Stage Manager runs the production during the performance, ensuring all of the cast and crew are present and on time, communicating with front of house, opening the curtains, cueing sound, lights and special effects, and supervising scene changes during the performance.
For more ambitious productions with multiple scene changes, the stage crew are responsible for moving furniture and props into place in the most efficient and unobtrusive way possible - if it's done right you hardly notice! This is a great way to get involved and learn about theatre, and can sometimes be combined with acting in smaller roles, depending on the production.
Our marketing activity is very broad and includes a range of online and traditional media. Come and help with: designing and printing programmes, posters and flyers; managing our website and social media feeds; online promotion through "what's on" sites; compiling press releases for local publications and lots more...
We are at an exciting stage in our ticketing journey, as in 2026 we will launch our online ticketing service for the first time. This will give our audience the option of booking online and receiving tickets by email. We will continue to maintain personal contact with audience members who prefer to book by phone or email and receive paper tickets.
Led by our Front of House Manager, our friendly Front of House team welcome the audience to the theatre, check tickets, direct people to their seats, sell raffle tickets, take coats and distribute programmes. This is another way to get involved in Tudor Players without the commitment of a role in the cast or backstage crew.
Our committee, elected by our membership, are volunteers who take responsibility for the day to day running of Tudor Players, ensuring that our productions go ahead, building is maintained and finances are sound. The Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and other committee members are vital to keeping the show on the road!
As well as working hard to put on some high-quality theatre productions, we also play hard and organise regular social events for members during the year. These include a summer barbeque, fireworks in November and a Christmas party, as well as meals and pub visits during the show weeks.
