Tudor Players production of "Night Watch" by Lucille Fletcher, this October, was
very well received by audience and critics alike.
The play is difficult in that the lead actors have long, demanding parts, displaying an intense variety of emotions. Judith Wade and the perpetually youthful Tony Webb were up to the task and have rightfully received commendations for their performances, as indeed have the rest of the cast. Edwina Gascoyne directed and we trust that she is very proud in her second foray into the world of direction. In addition the set was a problem - lots of money and style and an enormous window through which Judith could see the murder being committed. The window was a lot larger than any of our flats and we therefore had a very real problem. Just to make life difficult, we ended up with two huge windows, one for the murder and one for the New York skyline! In 2003 we have produced three very different plays - "Habeas Corpus", "On Golden Pond" and now "Night Watch" - but all to a very high standard. Last year we won The Dimberline Cup (for the best average marks over three plays) in the SADATA Full-Length Play Awards. Let us hope we can do the same again this year. |
